Adnan Abd Alrahman is an German-Kurdish origin artist who began painting when he was a young child in Ghanamie, a small village in the northeast of Syria, where he was born in 1969.
Syrian nationality had already been withdrawn from him and his family as well as from thousands of other Kurdish families by a political decision seven years before his birth.
Consequently, Abd Alrahman had no civil rights, he could not have any properties, neither could he have a passport nor an identity card.
Therefore, he was not able to travel legally, move freely ....This political decision had tragic influence on his daily life with its tiny details.
Art was his way of expressing his refusal of that situation, as well as creating his own world through his relationship with nature from a young age, by giving the elements of his paintings wide spaces of freedom that he had been denied.
After graduating from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus and obtaining a bachelor's degree in arts in 1999, he was not allowed to pursue postgraduate studies.
Then Art became a means for him to handle the reality of being Kurdish.
He started developing his artistic career through his personal relationships, he was able to hold many individual art exhibitions, and participate in collective artistic events outside Syria, such Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, USA and Kuwait(without the presence of the artist).
Adnan Abd Alrahman’s works are housed in public and private collections throughout the Middle East, USA and Europe.
